Facebook has launched a brand new application only for an elite set of users. Celebrities will now have the ability to see who mentions them on Facebook, and then interact with fans in a way never seen before. The application is geared towards actors, musicians, athletes, and the like., so long as they have a professional fan page When users open the mobile application they will have a menu that shows them what comments have been recently been made by other celebrities.. They will also have the ability to monitor when they are mentioned in conversation on the social media site, and allow them to post responses to the statuses or comments made about them. It’s similar to how they can monitor their Twitter account. They will also be able to monitor the “shares” of their own posts, and what influential media members are saying about them. Celebrities will also be able to host live Q&A sessions from their handheld device.
Parts of the application have been criticized (most notably by William Shatner) since the application requires the celebrities to follow another celebrity in order to start, a curious request.
Other celebrities that have begun using the application are Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Josh Duhamel, Ed Sheeran, Austin Mahone, Tyrese Gibson, Rachel Zoe, Arianna Huffington, Bill Nye (the Science Guy) and Nick Kristof.
